Dana is our Dietitian and CrossFit Kids Coach, which is fitting seeing as though she is CrossFit Zenith's resident adult-child. Growing up Dana played Netball, Swimming and participated in Taekwondo, until she became a teenager and decided that living a social life was better than playing sports. As an adult, she comes from a background of long distance running before starting CrossFit.
I love Kids! I love their passion, determination, resilience and fire. Their enthusiasm in class is captivating. To teach a child that they are capable of something, whether it's a cartwheel, wall walk, pull up or deadlift, is what I wish I had in my childhood. My purpose for coaching clients on nutrition is to make sure everyone has the objective facts around why fuelling themselves is so important, and how much potential they could have if they could do it right. We all know that food is all encompassing - it's social, emotional, environmental. How we can learn to use each situation to our best advantage is what I endeavour on coaching.
I was overweight and unhappy so I did something about it. I went to uni to study nutrition and dietetics to better understand how to fuel my body and learn objectively the importance of food/nutrients. Putting the education into practice on myself was an exciting adventure as I could see the potential from just fuelling properly!
I had no education around how to move my body or exercise so I developed a passion for running and loved it, but was very limited with my mobility, strength, agility, and power. I literally ran past CrossFit Zenith one day and stopped to see what it was, and then I found a flyer at home about it opening up and the rest is history!
